Syringe Exchange Program

The Syringe Exchange Program offers sterile syringes and other supplies, as well as harm reduction counseling. We provide Syringe Exchange as a means of prevention.

One proven method of preventing the spread of HIV & Hep C is to offer injection drug users harm reduction counseling and syringe exchange—as exposure to both HIV and Hep C can occur from sharing unsterilized needles. Pacific Pride Foundation offers harm reduction, risk assessment, sterile syringes and various other supplies and materials to help reduce the spread of blood born pathogens and support those who may be struggling with substance dependency.

PPF’s Syringe Exchange offers services Thursdays, 5:30-7pm at Alameda Park in Santa Barbara, and Wednesdays in Santa Maria at a to be determined location and time. We also offer this service out of our Health Utility Vehicle.

In 2014-15, Pacific Pride Foundation:

  • Collected 68,976 contaminated syringes
  • Supported 394 unique clients via 1,286 discrete exchanges
  • Distributed 54,654 sterile syringes

Our Syringe Exchange staff offer each exchange client harm reduction counseling, refer interested clients to substance abuse treatment programs and to other resources—including the many LGBTQ+ friendly Anonymous sobriety groups that meet weekly in PPF’s offices.

Your gift benefits the 10,000+ people we serve in Santa Barbara County each year.
