Make an impact with PPF!

Three people in front of big block letters spelling out "PRIDE"

“No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.”

— Marsha P. Johnson

Dear Community Partners and Supporters,

As I step into my role as Executive Director of Pacific Pride Foundation (PPF), I am profoundly aware of the resilience, courage, and commitment that define this organization and the community we serve. PPF’s mission is rooted in an unwavering belief: every person deserves to live authentically and unapologetically. This belief is more critical than ever as we confront new and ongoing challenges.

The statistics we face are sobering: 40% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously consider taking their own lives, and our older LGBTQ+ population is experiencing increasing isolation and mental health challenges. These realities underscore a deep need for solutions that are both immediate and sustainable.

With your continued support, PPF is committed to implementing targeted strategies to address these urgent issues through programs that promote mental health, community connection, and resilience.

In response to the alarming rates of youth suicide, PPF will enhance our youth programming by enhancing our comprehensive mental health resources. This includes launching a dedicated mentorship initiative where LGBTQ+ youth are paired with trained mentors who provide guidance, support, and a safe, understanding ear. We will also expand our partnerships with local schools to introduce LGBTQ+ inclusive workshops, helping create safer, more supportive educational environments.

For our older LGBTQ+ community, we plan to develop more robust social engagement programs aimed at reducing isolation. These will include monthly “Lavender Connections” meetups that combine social activities with mental health check-ins facilitated by professionals. Additionally, PPF will establish an intergenerational bridge program, connecting younger and older community members through shared storytelling, volunteer opportunities, and social gatherings that promote mutual learning and support.

Mental health is at the core of our community’s well-being. Next year, PPF will expand our counseling services to include a trauma-informed care approach tailored to the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. This will ensure that both youth and seniors have access to safe, affirming mental health care.

Beyond direct services, PPF will continue to amplify its voice through policy advocacy and outreach initiatives. We will champion legislative efforts that protect LGBTQ+ rights and promote mental health funding. Our aim is to create a ripple effect that strengthens the infrastructure of support for all LGBTQ+ individuals in Santa Barbara and beyond.

The realization of this vision relies on the collective power of our community. We invite you to stand with us by contributing your time, expertise, or financial support. By attending our events, volunteering, joining our monthly giving program or making a one time donation, you can be a part of the solution. Your support directly impacts our ability to reach more people, save lives, and build a vibrant, thriving, and visible LGBTQ+ community.

The future we envision for PPF is one where our community finds hope and purpose, and everyone feels seen and valued. Where every person, regardless of age, identity, or background, knows that they are not alone. The foundation we lay today will resonate for generations to come, reinforcing Marsha P. Johnson’s message that liberation must be inclusive and unwavering.

Thank you for being an essential part of this journey. With your continued partnership, we can make 2025 a year of profound growth, connection, and transformation for all.

 In solidarity,

Julio C. Roman
