Welcoming People of All Sexualities, Genders, and Backgrounds

Since its formation in 1976, PPF has become an incredible resource between Los Angeles and San Francisco for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS. Our Courses

Pacific Pride Foundation offers a variety of cost-effective training that can be tailored to any site’s specific needs, area of focus, or age range. Most organizations request our LGBTQ+ 101 course, which covers the vocabulary and best practices needed to understand and welcome people of all sexualities and genders. Our presentations provide information about transgender and nonbinary identities, about diverse sexual and romantic orientations, and about being an ally and supporting people of all backgrounds in the LGBTQ+ community.

PPF is also able to provide a panel of community members able to speak from their own experience as part of the LGBTQ+ community, with the panel moderated by a PPF staff member.

Cost:

The cost for training and workshop sessions varies depending on a number of factors, including: duration, number of individuals, amount of notice, and more.

Training sessions and workshops must have at least 10 participants.

Pacific Pride Foundation is able to offer a sliding scale for non-profit organizations and public education programs.

Courses and Workshops Offered:

LGBTQ+ 101

This 1-hour session will provide participants with tools to be able to create safe and brave spaces for people of all backgrounds in the LGBTQ+ community. Participants will gain an understanding of, and learn terminology for sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and more. This session aims to provide an understanding of how to be an ally and foster welcoming and inclusive environments to increase positive outcomes for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Understanding Gender and Pronouns

This 1-hour session will allow attendees to gain a further understanding of the nuances of multiple genders. This session will focus on explaining differences between sexual orientation, assigned sex at birth, gender identity, and gender expression. Participants will be provided with terminology and vocabulary about gender, and learn about what pronouns are and why they are important to respect. Participants will be provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote inclusivity within their community.

Exploring Aspects of Intersecting Identities

Working off of Kimberlé Crenshaw’s definition of intersectionality, this 1-hour interactive workshop provides a brave space for participants to learn about and explore intersecting aspects of both their own and each others’ identities. By sharing these identities, histories, experiences, and stories, we can gain further understanding of how people who share aspects of identity and people who have differing aspects of identity can have both similar and different experiences. This supportive environment will encourage respect and community building among participants.”

Harm Reduction and Narcan Use 101

This 1-hour training session is able to be adapted for multiple audiences. This training session is not suitable for youth under the age of 18.

    ~Staff Member, Wilderness Youth Project

“Our residents and clinical staff have been knocking on my door thanking me for arranging a place and space for them to hear your important message in ‘LGBTQ+ 101 & Addiction.’ You left a warm place in my chest. I feel hopeful for our future with people like Patrick Lyra & PPF in it.”

-Sandra Mistretta, Casa Serena Residential Recovery Home For Women

“Your explanations [in ‘Human Sexualities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Asexual, Pansexual and Queer Intimacies’] were cogently informative and helpful to everyone.
