Community Researcher
The LGBT Community Collaborative of the Central Coast has 4-6 Open Community Researcher Positions

The purpose of the study is to understand the strengths, challenges and interests of LGBT communities in Santa Barbara County and nearby areas. We have distributed the survey on the internet, and now we need to distribute pencil and paper surveys to members of groups who did not respond at high levels: youth, rural, transgender, and older adults (age 65 and above). We would like to see people of color included across these demographic groups. The survey is available in Spanish to reach people whose primary language is Spanish.

Job Summary
Community researchers will:

  • Attend a paid 2-hour training session about the project and how to distribute and collect the surveys. The training will be held late-August, 2008
  • Complete a 10-15 minute UCSB research ethics training on-line.
  • Contact individuals through LGBT personal networks (by phone or in person) to invite them to fill out the survey. Community researchers will be paid for each survey completed by an individual.
  • Assist any individuals who request that you fill out the survey while talking with them (due to reading level, disability, or personal preference). For each survey filled out while talking with an individual, community researchers will be paid.
  • Be reimbursed for local travel within Santa Barbara County for the training session and survey distribution.
  • Complete work – an estimated 8-12 surveys/community researcher – by October 1, 2008
