Education & Training

Foster Care Training

A higher percentage of gay youth are in the foster care system than are represented in the general population, and therefore educational training is offered to ensure their welfare and appropriate treatment as they navigate a difficult path.

Our training includes raising the awareness of the needs of LGBT youth, the coming out process, dating and relationships, living in a homophobic/heterosexist culture and addressing bias in the foster care system.

Pacific Pride Foundation can also provide prospective foster parents information about becoming foster parents to LGBT youth.

Substance Abuse Training

This training will help assist Substance Abuse Providers (administrators and clinicians) in forming a better understanding of LGBT people, their problems with substance abuse and the unique challenges they face. The goal of the training is help providers gain more understanding and become sensitive to the issues surrounding sexual and gender identity, homophobia and heterosexism. This can help LGBT clients feel comfortable and safe while they confront their substance abuse and start their journey of recovery.

Safe School Training

The mission of the Safe School Training is to ensure the healthy development of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth by initiating dialogue, providing information and creating support systems in our local schools. The training protects schools by providing information on a topic where resources are either absent or severely lacking. The training addresses suicide and violence toward LGBT youth and other young adults.

Sensitivity Training for Therapists Who Counsel LGBT Clients

Pacific Pride Foundation offers an overview of issues faced by LGBT people as they enter into a therapeutic relationship. Covered are issues such as coming out, living in a homophobic/heterosexist culture, making your practice more "LGBT friendly."

LGBT Awareness

This training is the basic LGBT 101 course. It is designed to be informative and educational on issues of homophobia, heterosexism, sexual orientation versus sexual identity and the basic definitions of terms used within the LGBT community. The presentation rises awareness of and sensitivity to LGBT issues and topics.

Same Sex and Intimate Partner Domestic Violence Training

Partner Abuse/Domestic Violence is a serious problem in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Domestic violence occurs in same-gender relationships with the same frequency and severity as it does among heterosexuals. This training will help providers gain a better understanding of Same Sex Domestic Violence within the LGBT community as well as the unique issues they face in obtaining services and support.

Creating A Workshop

Pacific Pride Foundation will create a workshop to fit your audience. We have created 2 hour workshops just on homophobia. We have provided 4 week workshops addressing transgender issues. PPF will work with instructors, institutes and other non-profits in developing training for a particular LGBT topic.
